Alicia Wong was born in 1973 in Shanghai. Her mother, who sold fabric, married her father, a tailor, in 1970 and so Alicia grew up in the old fabric market in Shanghai. Alicia's schooling was delivered through the great extended family of the Shanghai fabric markets.
By the time Alicia Wong was five years old she was already cutting fabrics for her father to turn into a hundred kinds of handmade garments. Shortly after, Alicia was selecting the finest pieces of silk from under her father's sewing machine with which she began to design and create her own dolls garments. This early start has allowed Alicia to build a vast knowledge of silk and its unique properties.
Today Alicia Wong still makes the finest silk garments, in the new fabric markets in Shanghai. Silk fabrics as you may know, have a sensual feel and Alicia’s designs reflect her absolute love of this fabric which has been made in China for more than 3000 years.
